KEEPING THE FAITH
Best friends since they were kids, Rabbi Jacob (the oh-so sexy Ben Stiller) and Father Brian (played to the tee by Edward Norton – who’s also the film’s director) are busy trying to save souls in New York's Upper West Side. They still play ball together and each have their own charm with their congregations. In other words; life is good. That is, until childhood gal pal Anna Reilly (Jenna Elfman) returns to the city. Sparks fly and a complicated love triangle ensues that only this fine team of thespians could play off. Norton’s direction is delightful and I was even able to handle Jenna Elfman, as her “Dharma” routine was nowhere to be found. In fact, she came across as intelligent and sexy and the chemistry between her and Stiller rocked. Rating: 4.25 Martinis
KNOCK OFF
Although Jean-Claude Van Damme claims he’s now "clean and sober" - me thinks he must’ve been on something to make the awful decision of starring in Knock Off. Plagued with a plot that looks more like Swiss cheese and an atrocious script, this flop of a flick does little more than show off his firm buttocks in denim. Shame too since he’s actually turning out to be a half decent guy. Better luck next time Jean-Claude. Overall Rating: Trust me, I’m generous with 1 Martini.
