The
Birth of a Toon!
Betty was born (okay drawn) in 1995 when comedic writer
Christine Blosdale needed
a character to use while writing her humorous music reviews.
The name was easy enough, since a Betty is someone
who has the three C’s...she/he must be confident,
classy and cool ...
But a swingin' body was still needed to match Betty’s vampy
personality. Coming to the rescue was the talented Howard
Baker (Aeon Flux, Hercules) who drew the character
after reading one of Betty’s columns.
Soon after her birth, Betty began writing her own spin on
the world of entertainment called The Daily Fix for
America Online which earned her a nomination for
Best Daily Feature in AOL’s Member’s Choice Awards.
Her
venomous writing style also earned Betty a nomination for
the 1997 Music Journalism Awards as Music Journalist
of The Year.
Since her humble beginnings, Betty's gone on to write for
snappy publications like
Hollywood.com, FashionTrip.com,
Bent Magazine, L.A.
Times’ Calendar
Live.com, Buzz Magazine,
BAM, The
Female FYI, XSeSS Living
and The Advocate.
Heck, she even hosted her own LIVE movie chat on Yahoo.com!
She's also been praised with plenty of press including Entertainment
Weekly, The
Internet Cool Guide, Checkout.com,
Twist
Magazine and Teen
Celebrity.
What
does the future hold for BeatBoxBetty?
Betty may have placed her pumps firmly on the Internet as
the saucy Tinseltown toon who chats with the stars and dishes
out brutally honest movie reviews, but it's the wonderful
world of TV where she really wants to call home.
Currently, she's entertaining visions of taking over Hollywood
in an animated sitcom based on her wild showbiz adventures.
Just think "The Critic" with curves!
Of course, that means she's pitching the show to anyone
interested, so if you happen to be a high powered development
executive who’s looking for the next hit animation empire,
please contact Christine at BtBoxBty@aol.com.
